The following is a project done for Tatum Games during my internship for the company. I constructed a two part comic to allow the characters to be more cohesive and to connect their plot development. The content is below:
Page 1
Panel 1
Have the panel in all black. Indicate Protector is reading aloud the following text.
PROTECTOR
It started out as any other day. But that’s the thing about calamity – you never see it coming. I should’ve expected it. A devil works through people, afterall. However, he went a step further; corrupted our innocence. Now we must try to unite in a time of peril.
Panel 2
Close shot of a newspaper article headlining: “Guardians: A Pact of a New Age”. Have the first few sentences read the dialogue from panel 1. Next few words after the sentences should read, “says Sabina” to indicate who quoted the words in the article. The rest can be scribbled. Have Emeka’s hands on the sides of the panel holding the newspaper but not showing his figure or face. Only his hands and the newspaper should be focused on.
Panel 3
On the upper left corner of the panel, show a statement saying: “One week ago”. Have a female news reporter off center of the panel while flames from a forest are being shown in the background. Police officers are holding people back from entering the scene.
NEWS REPORTER WOMAN
As you can see behind me, a fierce aftermath of notorious criminal Huo Tian’s quote “Dragon Flame” rages in a national forest park. Eyewitness accounts have spotted “Earth’s Trinity” on site combating this unprovoked terrorist attack.
Panel 4
Pan out camera to show Protector, Mantle, and Slade stand firmly together taking fighting stances. Forest trees and shrubs can be seen in the background while tiny sparks of flame catch on some shrubbery. Since Mantle is hidden by peering eyes in the forest, he is in his most powerful form. Depict earthly crust on his skin, dark tint green hair, and glowing yellow eyes, looking nearly menacing while he stands in the middle of the trio.
MANTLE
Honestly guys, I get your hate for Nervo, but what does this have to do with a park?
Panel 5
Pan out camera to show Dragon Flame and Scourge facing them. Dragon Flame should be depicted with a fiery dragon raging from his body while Scourge is dripping black tar from his. Show the tar burning the grassy plain he is standing on.
DRAGON FLAME
One of his terraforming facilities is hidden underground here. He’s planning to mechanize our planet like his home world.
SCOURGE
I know it’s hard to believe, but that’s how he works – unsuspecting and undetecting. You should know, Protector.
(*Note: Easter egg for people who read the Protector comic.)
Page 2
Panel 1
Close up shot of Slade and Protector as they walk forward getting prepared to strike.
Protector
Regardless, there are people in this area as we speak! To what ends will you go to satisfy your revenge?
SLADE
What is wrong with you two? Life resides in this forest. You’re willing to destroy it for one person?
Protector
I can help you, just like I did for Burst, but this – this is not the way.
(*Note: Reference to Scourge’s and Dragon Flame’s previous group of Valiant of Four Roses.)
Panel 2
Have Dragon Flame’s flame dragon roar and rage more with an aura of fire around it. Have Scourge dripping black tar bubble as if it is boiling the more angry he gets.
Scourge
We will take him down by any means necessary!
Dragon Flame
We don’t need your help!
Panel 3
Have Mantle shield Protector and Slade from the raging heat emanating off of them with an earth-like shield he conjures from the ground in front of them.
Mantle
Hey, I know your usually the boss man, but let me handle these two. Your whole armory will just add fuel to the fire. Plus, Slade you got skills, but you can’t do much burned to a crisp.
Protector
What do you propose we do then? Just stand here?
Panel 4
Show a worried look on Mantle’s face as his earth shield is turning into a lava like substance due to the heat. Protector and Slade look at him as he continues to relay instructions.
Mantle
Slade, since you know all about forest ecosystems, you’re the best option for finding ways to prevent the fire from spreading. Protector, your flight system and infrared tracking tech should make it easy for you to find any stranded civilians still here.
Slade
(Grunts in approval.)
Panel 5
Show Slade on one side about to run off into the forest and Protector on the other side of the panel mid flight looking back at Mantle who is in the middle but nearly blends in with the background. If you can, depict a smirk on Mantle’s face in the background. Protector is smiling as he flies off.
Protector
Not bad interim leader.
Mantle
Interim, huh?
Slade
I don’t care. As long as I don’t deal with people… I hate people.
Protector and Mantle
We know!
Slade
(*Grunts*)
Panel 6
Show Slade’s face and arm transform into wolf-like appearances as he is transitioning. He is cutting down and lifting trees crowded in an area to prevent fire from spreading onto them.
Panel 7
A bird eye’s view of Protector in the sky with the forest below him. Show people in random areas of the burning forest. Protector is flying towards them.
Page 3
Panel 1
Depict images of Dragon Flame and Scourge almost tower over Mantle with menacing glares. We see the back of Mantle’s figure as he looks up to the background of their exaggerated faces. His shield has turned into hot liquid on the ground beneath him.
Mantle
(I’ll have to neutralize Scourge first. If his tar reacts with his flame again, this place is done for.)
Scourge
What are you gonna do without your boys, Mantle?
Dragon Flame
You are as finished as the dirt you wield beneath your feet.
Panel 2
Close up shot of only Mantle’s mouth as he smiles triumphantly.
Mantle
You have no idea.
Panel 3
Close up shot of Dragon Flame’s and Scourge’s face as they look confused.
Panel 4
Depict Mantle utilizing the earth by extending his hand. Dirt has tightly encased Scourge preventing his goo from dripping.
Panel 5
Mantle crouches and places his hands on top of the Forest floor. Water shoots up from various spots on the ground, targeting Dragon Flame. The overwhelming pressure causes his fire to extinguish. Smoke emanates from his body.
Panel 6
Mantle is now standing over Dragon Flame still triumphantly smiling; almost cocky-like. Anger radiates off of Dragon Flame’s face. You can see random spots of the encased earth drip with small drops of goo but is still holding.
Mantle
I’m sorry. What were you saying?
Dragon Flame
I did not fathom you had such an ability.
Mantle
Earth is roughly 71% water. I can move parts of its surface and make wells appear. I just need to know where to apply the pressure.
Page 4
Panel 1
Pan out to the news reporter woman again. This time she is interviewing a random civilian who is a man in the area. Panel should take up about a third of the page since it is a significant foreshadowing of events to come. This is a way to “highlight” that fact.
News Reporter Woman
And just like that, I am getting word that Earth’s Trinity and first responders are controlling the situation. Whether you are a fan of vigilantism or not, they have thwarted the efforts of two highly dangerous terrorists. What are your thoughts on this, sir?
MALE CIVILIAN
I don’t know. Only one I can trust is Protector. He’s actually one of us, but even he takes the law in his own hands at times. I hear wolf boy doesn’t even like people and would attack us if not under the supervision of those two. And Mantle… he’s just weird!
News Reporter Woman
As unlawful as their acts might be, some may argue they are still making people safer.
Male Civilian
Yeah, I can’t disagree with that. But ask yourself, what is our world coming to when we depend on false idols to solve our problems? It won’t be long until this blind idolatry turns against us.
Panel 2
Show a dark figure surrounded by the shadows of city buildings on fire. He stands in the center and the viewers can catch a glimpse of an “M” integrated on his suit in the middle of hs chest. Show another dark figure with a womanly figure with short, silky black hair reaching to her neck. She’s rushing in to stop him.
(*Note: This foreshadows a climactic battle between Maximum and Quietess – an event that unifies The Guardians.)
Panel 3
Zoom in on Aziza as she wakes up from the vision. Sweat is clearly visible on her forehead and horror is cascaded over her expression.
Page 5
Panel 1
Show Aziza sitting across from Madam Psyche in a therapeutic type room. They are both sitting on cushioned seats talking to each other.
MADAM PSYCHE
What is it, Aziza? If these sessions to better hone your clairvoyance is too much, you don’t have to push yourself.
AZIZA
No. It’s not that. I think we’re all in danger.
Panel 2
Show the back of Madam Psyche’s head on the right side of the panel. She is looking down at Aziza’s hands on the left side. Draw rigid lines around her hands to depict it is shaking.
Panel 3
Pan out to show Madam Psyche’s worried expression.
Madam Psyche
I’ve seen you scared but never like this. I’m afraid to peer inside your mind. Is it Nervo?
Panel 4
Pan out again to show Aziza’s troubled face.
Aziza
Yes. He’s about to pit us against each other and we won’t even know it.
Panel 5
Show Aziza walk across the room passing Madam Psyche who is turning to her, still seated.
Aziza
Can I use your phone?
Madam Psyche
Of course, but for what?
Aziza
I need to call a friend.
Page 6
Panel 1
Have words in the upper left hand corner stating: “Meanwhile…”. Show Earth’s Trinity consisting of Protector, Mantle, and Slade huddled together away from the crowd, talking amongst each other. Dragon Flame and Scourge are in the background. Special ops units are wheeling them inside of a vehicle that says “Max Cell Transport” on the side. Slade has returned back to his normal human state. Mantle is in his human disguise. His hair has returned to a black color and his eyes are brown. A hat is over his head to keep a low profile. Protector is still in his armor but the armor is now covering his whole head now as to conceal his identity as Emeka Idra.
Mantle
What do we do now?
Panel 2
Close up of the three huddled together with some people in the background.
Slade
Not a fan of crowds, so I’m gonna investigate and see if what they said was true. If Nervo does have underground facilities, we’re all in trouble.
Protector
Agreed. I’ll address the press and see those two are transported without difficulty.
Mantle
Sounds good. I’ll stay on standby, blending into the crowd. I’m here if either of you need me.
Panel 3
Show back of Emeka’s head on the right side of the panel. Rest of the panel reveals Dragon Flame and Scourge in the back of the prisoner transport vehicle heavily cuffed. Technological devices are worn around their necks as collars. It can be faint, but indicate Slater Tech’s logo on them. Note that the devices are capable of temporarily neutralizing their abilities.
Dragon Flame
You come to gloat, Protector?
Protector
No, only to talk.
Scourge
Why are you so bent on helping us?
Panel 4
Close shot of Protector speaking. People in the background are seen being held back by policemen, preventing them from approaching the arrest scene. Have the rays of the sun shine down on Protector as if heaven is blessing him and his words.
Protector
We’ve all lost many things. I can see why it’s easier to hate the world and seek vengeance, but it is not the way. If you ever seek redemption, please join us.
Panel 5
Protector walks away. Close up of his amored helm on the left side of the panel. It takes up about a third of the panel. The special ops are closing the back of the vehicle doors through the rest of the panel, but it is not closed all the way. Readers can see Dragon Flame’s and Scourge’s contemplative expressions as they reflect on their acts.
Panel 6
Have Protector hold up his wrist and press a button with his free hand. The press can be seen in the background trying to get his attention.
COMPUTER
Incoming call from Aziza, sir.
Protector
Patch her in.
Aziza
Emeka! I’m sorry my friend, but I have bad news.
Panel 7
Protector flew to a close place behind a building away from the crowd. Part of his face is revealed again in his suit. Shock is prevalent in his expression. He is still speaking through the built in communicator of his suit.
Protector
Are you really telling me that our best defender can be our greatest threat?
Aziza
I don’t know, but I’m going to seek the aid of the other person I saw in my vision.
Protector
How long before it comes to pass?
Aziza
There’s no certainty but most of my visions happen within a day or two. I’m sorry I couldn’t see this sooner.
Protector
(*Sighs*) God help us all.
Page 7
Panel 1
On the upper left hand corner of the panel, state: “A couple days later”. Close up shot of the integrated “M” on Maximum’s suit. His suit should be stylishly crafted with clear undertones of Native American colors. A midnight blue cape he wears can be seen flowing in the background.
MAXIMUM
You know we don’t have to do this, right?
Panel 2
Pan out to show Maximum squaring off against Brickjaw. Spectators are hiding inside of buildings in the background recording it on their phones. Brickjaw is in his normal state. He can now activate his lava-like armor at will. Brickjaw’s ball and chain makes a clear crack on the pavement, indicating how heavy it is.
BRICKJAW
I just want this over with, you understand? Just end me!
Maximum
Good and bad people alike have tried to help you. I’ve read your file. You hate yourself, but you can truly help people with the gift you have. Your life is not over!
Brickjaw
What do you know, huh?! I bet you still have a family. My family died after I got this so called “gift”. Just take me out!
Panel 3
Depict a solo shot of Brickjaw as his body has now turned to his lava-like form. Anger is exuding from his face.
Panel 4
Angle the picture to where the reader can see Maximum’s foot make a small trench in the ground as he is about to take off running at full force.
Panel 5
Surrounding windows shatter from the force of their collision. The surrounding air expands into an outward force from the exchange of their blows. Brickjaw’s ball and chain landed on Maximum’s face while Maximum landed an uppercut to his gut.
Panel 6
Brickjaw is unconscious on the ground. Maximum has stumbled but still stands. The wound on his face is shown already healing from the blow.
Maximum
I’m not going to end your life, but I’m not going to let you do whatever you want either.
Panel 7
The people that were hiding in buildings now gleefully rush over to Maximum. Maximum has a surprised look on his face. Authorities can be seen in the background confiscating Brickjaw’s ball and chain as well as arresting him.
CIVILIAN BOY
Woah! Way to take it to the max!
CIVILIAN GIRL
OMG! Can I get a picture with you?
CIVILIAN YOUNG WOMAN
Do you have a girlfriend?
Panel 8
Maximum’s face becomes flushed with embarrassment as he dashes away from the scene.
Maximum
Uhm, sorry. Gotta go. See ya!
Page 8
Panel 1
Show the same scene from page 7 panel 8 but zoomed out to show it part of a T.V. screen. A news anchor can be seen reporting the event from the channel.
NEWS ANCHOR
Maximum has saved us from another seemingly impossible danger which could have had devastating results. His presence alone has prevented the efforts of crimes and illegal activity since he’s been with us. One has to ask: “Where would we be now without him?”
Panel 2
Maximum is sitting on a living room couch while his parents are viewing the news from the kitchen. Maximum is now in civilian attire. His hair is relaxed and no longer stylish. Brown contacts now hide his hazel eyes. His cheeks are blushed.
DAD
I gotta admit, that’s not your best look, son.
MOM
He was fine up until he became shy around that girl.
Maximum
Mom! Can you two just drop it? Okay?
(*Note: His mom is Native American and his dad is Caucasian.)
Panel 3
Close up of mom and dad smiling at their son’s embarrassment.
Panel 4
Show his mom sitting next to him on the couch holding his hand. Aaron is shyly looking away from her while still holding her hand.
Mom
Aaron, we don’t mean to tease you. You’re physically going through more things with your body than any person your age right now, sweetheart.
Maximum
I really don’t want to have this talk, mom.
Mom
I’m just saying… Why not just take some time to figure this out? You know I worry when you go out there. At least think about it, okay?
Panel 5
Have his mom get up from the couch while his dad is in the background searching the fridge.
Dad
Hey, hun. I know Aaron’s hungry, but I think we’re out of food in the fridge.
Mom
(*Sighs*) I guess I’ll go out to the market again.
Panel 6
Depict Aaron speeding out of the door with papers and other objects whirling around behind him.
Maximum
That’s cool. I’ll just patrol in the meantime!
Panel 7
Depict his mom stare at the wide open door in awe. Father is rubbing his head nervously.
Mom
It’s like it goes from one ear out the other with him.
Dad
Well, he is who he is. We can’t really get mad at a son who wants to do the right thing, I guess.
Panel 8
Have his mom and dad smiling as they embrace and kiss each other. However, try to have the main focus be her wedding ring on her finger as it will come into play later in the story.
Mom
I guess not.
Page 9
Panel 1
Maximum is jumping from building to building searching for crime. He is in his hero attire.
Panel 2
Bird eye view of Maximum looking down in an alleyway as something catches his eye. A menacing figure is lurking in the shadows.
Panel 3
Show Maximum about to touch the dark figure’s shoulder. The figure has luminescent eyes as that is all that can be seen due to the shadows.
Maximum
Excuse me, Mr. Is everything alr-
Panel 4
Close up shot of Maximum’s startled face.
Panel 5
Depict a detailed picture of Nervo’s mechanized face close up. It should have a sinister nature. Although Maximum talks in this panel, his face should not be seen as the main focus is Nervo’s reveal.
Maximum
Who or what are you?
NERVO
I’d thought you know by now. I’m Nervo.
Panel 6
Maximum takes a fighting stance while Nervo slightly levitates off of the ground in the alleyway. They should be staring at each other intensely.
Maximum
Oh, I now know exactly who you are now. I’ve heard rumors of you. You couldn’t control The Valiant Four, and now you’re trying to get in my head. Is that it? Well, it won’t work!
Nervo
Silly, boy. I’m already inside!
(*Note: Reference to the Valiant of Four Roses once again.)
Panel 7
Nervo is still levitating in the air but this time with an arrogant posture. Maximum charges in to deliver a fierce punch.
Maximum
No, you’re not! Stop trying to pull others into your crap! You take advantage of people who are just living their lives. I’m taking you down. Right here! Right now!
Page 10
Panel 1
Show Genesis idly walking down the street. He’s wearing a hoodie to hide his burns, scars, and cyborg enhanced limbs. A loud boom can be heard in the background with dust rising. Genesis turns his head to the scene.
Panel 2
Genesis rushes over to the scene only to see Maximum fighting thin air. He is destroying cars and denting pavements in a fit of rage.
GENESIS
Is that Maximum? What in the world is he doing?
Panel 3
Show Genesis hiding behind a corner calling somebody on his cell phone. In the background, have one of the buildings say Sindicorp in the distance as an easter egg for the Binary comic.
Genesis
Hey, Emeka. I think we got a bit of a situation downtown.
Protector
Is it Maximum?
Genesis
Yeah, but how did you know?
Protector
Long story. Only engage if absolutely necessary. I’m on my way.
Panel 4
Genesis hangs up only to see Maximum making his way towards some people on the street in his blind rage.
Genesis
Crap. “Absolutely necessary” came sooner than I thought.
Panel 5
Genesis attacks Maximum with a flurry of kicks, knocking him down with his enhanced strength and speed. People run away in a panic.
Genesis
I may not know you that well, but are you out of your mind? These people look up to you. What are you doing?
Panel 6
Show Maximum’s eyes like a man possessed staring back at Genesis ready to attack in a blinding fury.
Maximum
Lucky hit, but no matter how many times you knock me down, I’ll keep getting up, Nervo!
Genesis
Nervo?
Page 11
Panel 1
Depict Protector flying in the sky in his armor as he heads for downtown. He’s talking into his communicator as he flies.
Protector
Computer, have you contacted Professor Gordan in getting Burst’s assistance?
Computer
Yes, Dr. Idra. Projected ETA puts her approximately three minutes from desired designation.
Protector
Thank you. Can you get me Mantle now?
Computer
Patching in Mantle now.
Panel 2
Protector is still flying in the sky like panel 1 but is now grinning.
Mantle
What’s up, Protector?
Protector
I know you said you’d be on standby if you were needed. Are you ready?
Mantle
Yeah. Give me your location. I’ll be there. I mean – not that I wasn’t busy or anything. I said I’d be on standby a couple of days ago. It’s not like I was waiting the whole time. I-I have a life. (*Laughs nervously through the other end*)
Protector
Thank you.
Panel 3
Protector descends to Genesis’s location only to see him unconscious on the pavement. Dust surrounds the aftermath of the fight as Maximum stands triumphantly over Genesis. His intensity is more menacing than ever.
Mantle
For what?
Protector
You always manage to put a smile on my face even in the darkest of times.
Panel 4
Have Burst dash up beside Protector. Mantle comes in on the other side of Protector, riding on dirt carried by the wind.
Mantle
This is no time to get soft, my friend. It looks like this road we stand on is a hard one.
BURST
I can’t believe he took down Genesis even with Professor Gordan’s enhancements! Just how strong is he?
Protector
Brace yourselves. I have a bad feeling we’re about to find out. If I don’t hear from Aziza soon, it’s safe to say we’re the last line of defense between him and the city.
(*Note: Make sure Burst’s intro to the scene stands out in a significant way as she is the last member of the previous Valiant of Four Roses team to be revealed and a powerful ally of Protector. She also has connections with Genesis through Slater Tech and Professor Gordan.)
Panel 5
Depict a detailed and intense panel frame of Protector, Burst, and Mantle facing off against Maximum.
Page 12
Panel 1
State the message: “One day ago” on the upper left hand corner of the panel. It is now night time in the background. A close up of Aziza’s face is centered in the middle.
Aziza
According to my vision, my mystery woman should be around this area. Well, if she’s like the others I’ve met, I’ll just have to follow the loud sounds.
Panel 2
Panel should be black but with white sparks and white slashes symbolizing a blade fight is happening so fast that the human eye can barely see.
Panel 3
Detailed depiction of Quietess on the left and Silent Storm on the right in sluggish fighting stances staring at each other with blades in hand. Both are panting heavily on the roof of a building. Quietess is in full camo gear with her night vision goggles; short hair flowing in the wind while rain pours down. Silent Storm is also in his military tactical suit. You can see a smile beneath his half mask.
SILENT STORM
I admit, you’re the most fun job I’ve had in awhile, but I got people paying my faction a pretty penny for you. Can’t you just give up?
QUIETESS
Why? You getting tired? I don’t yield to any corrupt people in government nor the people who work for them.
Silent Storm
I don’t work for them. This is just one job. Times are hard, afterall. You should know. You’re always on the run, right?
Panel 4
Show Quietess deploy a grapple hook to the edge of the roof while attempting to dodge Silent Storm’s shots he is firing in the background by jumping off of it.
Panel 5
Depict a close up bird eye’s view of Quietess falling but looking back at the reader while she fires shots back at Silent Storm who cannot be seen in the panel.
Panel 6
Quietess and Silent Storm are falling down from the building matching each other shot for shot.
Page 13
Panel 1
Show the grapple hook catch Quietess just before she falls to the ground. Silent Storm is overhead deploying a glider to land safely on the other side of the street.
Panel 2
A few people are running from them in the background. She is studying him from the other side of the street keeping an eye on his movements. She has two fingers pressed against her ear indicating she is talking into a communicator with her husband, Waren Marshal.
WAREN MARSHAL
You need a hand?
Quietess
No. He’s just annoying.
Panel 3
Show them charging at each other, fighting again while she is still talking to Waren through the communicator.
Waren Marshal
Not only do we have to deal with government contractors like this guy, but Klown Krew is targeting us, too. Do we have to look over our shoulders for the rest of our lives?
Quietess
Yeah, this really sucks!
Panel 4
They are resting again panting heavily on the side of a pavement as a couple of cars pass.
Silent Storm
Is that your guy you’re talking with?
Quietess
Yeah, so what? What is it to you?
Silent Storm
I’m curious. You both could’ve fled the country by now, but you stayed. Why?
Quietess
I really don’t think someone like you would understand.
Panel 5
Close shot of Silent Storm’s face as his eyes narrow through his mask.
Silent Storm
Try me.
Panel 6
Quietess relaxes her fighting stance and stands normally while still staring at Silent Storm from a distance on the pavement. Silent Storm is also at ease.
Quietess
Once you lose a child – lose innocence, it changes you. You can’t really go back to the way things were. We realized just how corrupt this world can be. We didn’t want anyone to have to go through what we did ever again. We stayed to fight the system.
Panel 7
Have Quietess step back in surprise as Silent Storm resheaths his weapons.
Quietess
Why back down? I thought you were on contract.
Panel 8
Silent Storm is turned around looking back at the reader over his shoulder, standing in the rain. Have a streak of lightning come down almost as if divine intervention stopped them from trying to take each other down. It also gives homage to his character’s name as it is a silent storm.
Silent Storm
I don’t like complications.
Panel 9
Quietess looks on as he disappears into the night. Waren speaks through her communicator.
Waren Marshal
Heh… There are people who still have a heart, afterall.
Page 14
Panel 1
Have Aziza round the corner, surprising Quietess.
Aziza
Hah! Knew it.
Quietess
Huh?! Knew what? Who are you?
Aziza
It’s nothing – just followed the loud sounds, is all.
Panel 2
Quietess points her blade at Aziza who puts her hands up in shock, nervously.
Quietess
I don’t know what you’re talking about, but you need to answer me now! I won’t ask nicely again.
Aziza
Is this really you asking nicely?
Quietess
Talk!
Panel 3
Aziza puts her hands up in fright. Draw rigid lines around her hands indicating it is shaking. She is also looking away from Quietess’s blade pointed right at her. Quietess has her fingers placed on her ear again talking through the communicator.
Aziza
Okay! Okay! Just please don’t hurt me. My name is Sabina, but I go by Aziza.
Waren Marshal
Aziza? That sounds familiar. There were internet trolls calling her crazy for writing an amateur article about an alien.
(*Note: Easter Egg to the Protector comic.)
Quietess
What? Why is she following us, then?
Waren Marshal
I don’t know, but put your weapons down, Sophita. I think she’s just a kid.
Panel 4
Quietess raises her goggles to her forehead to get a better look at her. Police lights can be seen coming to their location in the background.
Aziza
Well, I’m 18. I think that’s considered a young adult in the U.S.
Quietess
She is just a kid. Copy that, Waren. Let’s get you out of the rain, girl.
Page 15
Panel 1
Aziza is sitting across from Quietess and Waren at a low end restaurant. People are in the background at their own booths conversing. Quietess is in normal civilian clothes with a wig disguise, a hat, and glasses to hide her distinguishable features.
Waren Marshal
I hope you don’t mind, but we can’t take any chances. A place like this is a nice, public, and open area just in case you try anything.
Aziza
I understand. It’s hard to find people to trust. I’ve been on the run, too.
Quietess
From this Nervo guy, correct?
Aziza
Covert government operations as well, like you. They wanted my clairvoyance for personal gain.
Panel 2
Same panel frame as panel 1. Maybe you can change the background slightly to kind of give the impression of an active environment. For example, a waiter passing by, people moving, etc.
Waren Marshal
Is that how you tracked her?
Aziza
More or less, yes.
Quietess
Show us. What will I do in a few minutes?
Panel 3
Have Aziza look around to make sure no one is watching them. Quietess and Waren are staring at her intently.
Aziza
It doesn’t exactly work that way. It’s not like an exact science.
Quietess
What can you do?
Waren Marshal
Show us or we walk because we’re not buying a thing you’re saying.
Panel 4
Close up on Aziza and a utensil laying on the table. Have her hands over the utensil, preparing to tamper with it. Utensil should be squeaky clean.
Aziza
(*Sighs*)
Panel 5
Focus on the utensil on the table as it now has accumulated rust. She is holding it in her palm.
Aziza
As you can see, I can somewhat manipulate time, but I’m kind of working on that too.
Panel 6
Zoom in on Waren and Quietess as they look at the awe inspiring spectacle Aziza has performed.
Waren Marshal
What in the – ?
Quietess
Just who are you?
Panel 7
Focus in on Aziza looking down in contemplation while she reveals the back of her hand which has a mark in the shape of the sun.
Aziza
Funny… I don’t really know how to answer that question. I guess I’m still trying to figure myself out. What I can tell you is that Nervo is real. He gave me this. I was fortunate enough to befriend Protector. We have been gathering allies to try to stop his plans of taking over our planet.
(*Note: Sun-like tattoo is an Easter Egg of Sabina “Aziza” comic.)
Panel 8
Pan back out to them casually talking to each other at the dinner table. Waiter in the background is walking away after placing drinks on their table.
Waren Marshal
What are some of the things he’s done already?
Aziza
For starters, he manipulates people’s minds when they least expect it. I was a victim of it. He has free control of time and what you see. As soon as you fall for his first illusion, you’re already under his influence.
Quietess
What is he up to now?
Panel 9
Close up on Aziza. Depict how serious her face is as she is talking to them.
Aziza
We recently received confirmation he is creating underground facilities as a means of crafting terraforming devices to mechanize this planet.
Quietess
He sounds like a monster. What precautions have you taken?
Aziza
Heroes like Binary who is single-handedly taking out a corrupt organization such as Sindicorp and Madam Frost are banding together for us. Even someone like Slade who hates humanity is there with them, fighting for the greater good.
(*Note: Another Sindicorp reference as an easter egg to Binary’s comic.)
Page 16
Panel 1
Zoom in on Waren Marshal as he has an intent look on his face.
Waren Marshal
Why come to us? What part does my wife play in this?
Panel 2
Close up on Aziza as she is nervous to look Waren or Quietess in the eye. She looks down regrettably.
Aziza
Nervo is causing a distraction. According to my vision, he will take over Maximum’s mind and cause him to wreak havoc on a city. The only one I saw capable of stopping him, is your wife.
Panel 3
Waren Marshal and Quietess oddly perk up with curiosity. Food is on their table as waiter walks off in the background.
Waren Marshal
Wait, Max? The 14-year old in a grown man’s body?
Aziza
Wait! You know him personally?
Quietess
On one of my nightly escapades a while ago, yes. We’re not exactly fond of each other.
Panel 4
Close shot of Aziza blushing, hinting she had a small crush on him.
Aziza
Is he really only 14? Oh! I had no idea.
Panel 5
Shot of Quietess and Waren noticeably smirking and rolling their eyes.
Panel 6
Pan out to them talking again. Aziza has a confused look on her face.
Aziza
Hold on a sec. So you can accept a boy who has unfathomable strength but not a girl who predicts the future?
Waren Marshal
These are strange times. To be honest, we’re still adjusting to her abilities. We’re new to this craziness.
Panel 7
Close up shot of Quietess reminiscing on the time she encountered Maximum. Waren and Aziza are still talking but are not in the panel. Signify Quietess is drowning them out as she thinks about the past.
Waren Marshal
Have your visions ever been wrong before?
Aziza
Either fortunately or unfortunately… no.
Page 17
Panel 1
On the upper left hand corner state: “A few months ago”. Quietess and Maximum are furiously staring each other down on a rooftop. Detailed depiction of the emotion exuding from their faces. Quitess is in camo gear but has her goggles and mask off. Maximum is in his costume without the cape as it wasn’t an accessory to his suit yet since in Native American culture, the bear on it represents strength and leadership which were qualities he had yet to possess.
Panel 2
Quietess fiercely shoves Maximum only though he moves back slightly.
Quietess
What is wrong with you? That perp could have been the key! I could’ve gotten information from him to get me and my husband out of this mess.
Maximum
To what end, huh? Torture? His life? No matter what the reason, it does not justify your means. My parents taught me that.
Panel 3
Quietess walks away from him to get space as she talks. Maximum stands strong in his conviction.
Quietess
Well, whoopty doo for you, “Max”. You’ve never lost loved ones. I no longer have kids to teach that to! Don’t you understand?
Maximum
I understand that you’re broken, and you need help even if you refuse to admit it.
Panel 4
Quietess storms towards his direction again, pointing her finger to his chest; tears fleeing from her eyes. He stares back at her in sorrow.
Quietess
You have no idea! You’re a child – a child. To see the world as just black and white is idiotic.
Panel 5
Show Maximum tower over her in righteous fury. A child’s head is projected by his face as he says the following words to her. Mention that the child is the image of her youngest son he reminds her of as her son said the same words he did when he was alive.
Maximum
I’d rather be an idiot for the rest of my life than do something I knew was wrong.
Panel 6
Close up of Quietess’s face with tears streaming from her eyes as Maximum is bringing back the flooded memories of her children. Maybe have small images around her in the background of simple moments she spent with them.
(*Note: This flashback moment can be a scene in a Maximum/ Quietess comic if it is decided by Tatum Games to make one.)
Panel 7
Depict Quietess snap back to reality holding Waren’s hand at the dinner table. We see a small portion of the back of Aziza’s head. Warren is studying the determined look on his wife’s face as she looks back at Aziza.
Quietess
We’ll do it.
Aziza
Are you sure?
Warren Marshal
Yeah, I know that look. We’ll help you.
Page 18
Panel 1
On the upper left hand corner state: “Resuming the next day” or something along those lines to indicate to the audience we are returning to the fight between Maximum, Protector, Burst, and Mantle in the city. Depict Protector, Burst, and Mantle being pushed back by the overwhelming force of Maximum’s punch. Debris is flying everywhere. Genesis can still be seen on a grassy area now in the background. He is trying to etch something in the ground before he falls unconscious again.
Burst
I’d expect nothing less from Genesis. He keeps getting back up, but he’s done for if we don’t get him out of here.
Panel 2
Focus in on Mantle as he is shielding them from the force of his attack with his earth shield conjured from the ground. Protector is beside him shielding his face from the leftover debris still flying in his face with his arms.
Mantle
What happened to Maximum anyway? Why is he acting crazy?
Protector
I don’t know. All Aziza said was be prepared for Maximum to attack. She didn’t have time to fully explain.
Panel 3
Maximum as he menacingly stares at them; teeth clenched and balled fists. His cape waves ferociously in the background.
Maximum
I don’t know how you made duplicates of yourself, but I’ll destroy every one of them!
Panel 4
Mantle stares back, confused with Burst and Protector standing firm in the background.
Mantle
What on earth is he babbling about?
Protector
I don’t know, but no time to wonder. Initiate Attack Pattern B.
Burst
Understood.
Panel 5
Show Mantle use earth coming up from the pavement to stop Maximum in his tracks and encase him with dirt.
Panel 6
Show Burst ignite the encased Maximum with heat from her gauntlets to heat up the earth.
Panel 7
Show Protector use an experimental cryo blast shot to freeze and harden the molten earth Maximum is encased in.
Panel 8
Maximum is encased in a hardened tomb of earth while Protector, Burst, and Mantle look back in ease.
Burst
Finally.
Panel 9
Depict Mantle doing a facepalm while looking at Protector. Protector looks back at him, smiling.
Mantle
Hey, man. You could’ve used that in our scuffle with Scourge and Dragon Flame.
Protector
You were interim leader. What type of person would I be if I deprived you from such a moment?
Page 19
Panel 1
Dramatic focus on Maximum as he physically breaks out of the encasement.
Maximum
You joke with yourself while I’m fighting you? That is the last time you underestimate me.
Panel 2
A streak of colors from Maximum’s suit is all that can be seen as he takes out Burst and Mantle in one fell swoop. Protector dodged in the nick of time by flying in the air.
Mantle
Uh oh…
Panel 3
Protector is poised in the sky with the sun behind him, illuminating his resolve. A barrage of bullets and fire rockets shoot from his suit.
Protector
Sorry, my friend, but this madness ends here! This may hurt, but I know it won’t kill you.
Panel 4
Close up of Maximum stepping on air and making air pockets/ steps with the impact of him rapidly kicking his feet with full force to reach Protector in the sky.
Panel 5
Protector looks down in shock and deploys a giant shield from his forearms to shield him from the impending force of Maximum’s punch. Chunks of armor is flying off as the impact is too strong.
Protector
I wasn’t even aware you could do that. Just how strong are you?
Panel 6
Show Protector take one last look below him staring at Maximum on the ground before plunging to the floor below. He notices an unfinished message Genesis was drawing in the grass with his body sprawled beside it. It reads, “Ner-”.
Protector
Of course! All the clues make sense now. Nervo is in his head, but we’ve figured it out too late.
Panel 7
As Protector is falling, have a holographic image appear in front of his face projecting from his red eye.
Computer
Detecting unknown user. Security bypass accepted. Rerouting remaining energy supply to boosters.
Panel 8
Protector’s boosters cushion his fall on his way down to the pavement, saving him.
Protector
What is going on? I didn’t authorize such a command.
Page 20
Panel 1
Zoom in on Quietess on a motorcycle in cameo gear with goggles and mask. She uses a large wooden plank of a construction site nearby as a ramp.
Panel 2
Quietess leaps off of the wooden plank and rams her motorcycle right into Maximum who is still in the air descending from the fall. She also places a left hook square to the jaw.
Panel 3
Show a van pull up beside Protector. Waren peers down to him with the driver’s window rolled down.
Waren Marshal
I hope you don’t mind. I did some last minute hacking to your systems. Not really a whiz at it, but I can get around good enough.
Protector
You have my gratitude, stranger.
Panel 4
Aziza opens the side door of the van, gesturing for Protector to get inside.
Aziza
Emeka. I’m here and brought back up.
Panel 5
Aziza is out of the car helping Protector to his feet. We see the back of both of their heads while they stare at Quietess and Maximum who are in the background.
Protector
Is that the woman you were talking about?
Aziza
Yes.
Protector
Her name is Quietess if I recall. I’ve read local reports about her enhanced skills, but she might as well be an ordinary citizen facing someone like Maximum.
Page 21
Panel 1 (Take up a fourth of the page)
Quietess can be seen descending down with a grapple line hooked to a nearby building. Maximum crashes down with one knee and a fist to the ground, looking up at her. Waren is speaking but not in the panel.
Waren Marshal
Watch it. That’s my wife you’re talking about. And from the looks of it, our last hope.
Panel 2 (Takes up rest of the page)
Detailed image of Quietess and Maximum staring each other down intensely, bracing themselves for a showdown. Citizens can be seen from a distance witnessing the spectacle. The wind is flowing Maximum’s cape behind him. Quietess’s short hair flows as well. Sun is high in the sky, bringing light to a decisive confrontation that will bring a beginning of The Guardians.
Quietess
That barely did anything to you, huh? This is gonna be one heck of a day.
To be continued…
