I. History
Aaron is the self-proclaimed “Savior of the World”. He was born uniquely different from most people. His parents grew up leading harsh lives. His father has a genetic disease called duchenne muscular dystrophy which caused him progressive muscle weakness. The town his mother grew up in was extremely discriminatory towards certain people. His grandmother on his mom’s side was half Native American and half Caucasian. She married his grandfather who was full Caucasian. His mother was only part Native American and hardly had any distinguishable features except for her tanned skin. This particular feature and her difficulty to learn concepts others picked up easily, caused her to hate herself when she was younger. Their faults seemingly attracted one towards the other, but they did not want the same for their offspring.
They wanted to raise their son with an impenetrable moral compass, but to avoid the struggle they had to go through. For their child to be socially accepted in their eyes, they agreed to do gene-splicing, which manipulated DNA to alter traits of offspring. This process is also partly used for the cloning of species. Because of the unethical implications set on performing such an experiment on a human fetus, such projects were said not to exist. However, Aaron’s parents were upper middle class (nearly upper class) in financial status and came across a facility who “regulated” the process. They were understandably hesitant at first, but after seeing the numerous results and pictures of other well off couples who did the same thing, they ultimately decided to do it.
It was agreed the child would develop no sign of genetic disease from his father. He would also have physical traits such as being more athletic, prone to being intellectual, and even have attractive features so he could get ahead in life. Once Aaron was born, everything changed. His parents noticed he never got sick as a baby. As he grew up, things became more complicated. He could heal from wounds at an unusually exceling rate, and he was the best in all sports he participated in ranging from track to football. His metabolism was incredible. He ate a full meal almost every two hours without gaining a pound.
They decided their little investment into their son’s future was working well – too well. So much so in fact, it caused them concern. It appeared he had absolutely no limitations – at least compared to that of the average human. He was always full of energy; ready for the next challenge life had for him. They went back to the facility, but it was no longer in commission, so they went to their personal doctor they trusted and confided in. After numerous tests were conducted on Aaron, their doctor concluded that Aaron was something else entirely. Still human, but without drawbacks.
Their doctor hypothesized something wrong must’ve happened during the DNA manipulation process for Aaron to be exhibiting behaviors and abilities they didn’t expect. His healing and regenerative ability was so rapidly advanced that it not only healed his wounds but healed all type of pain, allowing him to recuperate at an exponentially faster rate than anything alive. For instance, for muscle to expand, micro tears form during workouts which causes soreness. The soreness is in response to the stimulus of the muscle, indicating you have worked it out. By obtaining amino acids, the building blocks of protein, the body can heal the micro tears and adapt to the workout stimulus at a faster rate. Thanks to Aaron’s regeneration and his overwhelming appetite, his body goes through this process almost instantly. Aaron confirmed it when he said his soreness only lasts for an hour and even less than that after his body has adapted to it when doing an intense exercise. It can take others up to three days.
Aaron’s parents became concerned with this information as their doctor also told them Aaron was most likely born without limiters in his body because of his recuperative perks. His body most likely decided he didn’t need them, since it could repair any damage. People can train their body to the limit, but in Aaron’s case, he could run faster than an olympian, lift more than a bodybuilder, or even jump so high to the point where it felt like he was flying and still have unlimited potential to push himself even further. He had no limits. His doctor informed them to be very cautious as he may be the key to human evolution. There were people who would like nothing more than to experiment on him if they found out someone like him existed.
After learning of this information, Aaron pushed his body more. Soon, he could lift a full-weighted dumpster and jump from the ground to the top of a two-story building effortlessly. However, the gene-splicing procedure had a side effect. The more he pushed his muscles, the faster he went through a growth spurt to support the increase of mass in his body. His parents had to take him out of public school, since people were asking too many questions. He was home-schooled for most of his childhood. Thanks to his also exceptionally gifted mind, he learned concepts quickly and studied lessons which would be considered college courses in schools. By the time he was 12, he looked like a man in his early 20s. His appearance didn’t age past that. His healing ability made him age progressively slower as to the point where he could potentially outlast his grandchildren if he had any.
His parents knew exactly what he wanted to do with his ability. It terrified them. Aaron was always into heroes and with the moral compass they raised him to have, he couldn’t turn away from people who needed help. They didn’t think their innocent, little boy was ready to take on the darkness of the world, but no matter how much they fought him on the issue, they eventually let his burning passion trump their concerns for his well being. They felt as if they were punished for altering their son to be normal in this world as he became far from it. He never resented them, though and loved them more for giving him the strength to save people. They thought they put an unbearable weight on their son’s shoulders. Little did they know just how heavy that weight would be as he grows up to be the one of the greatest heroes ever known.
II. Personality
Though adult in appearance, he still has the personality of a kid. He can be extremely childish at times and can’t comprehend the depth of a serious situation he is in. He is mostly modest, but because of his age and limitless potential, he has the tendency to be overconfident at times and charge headstrong into a battle. People close to him have to constantly remind him he is not invincible nor bullet proof. Although he can rapidly heal from a gunshot, if it were to hit anything vital like the heart or brain, his body would go into shock and perhaps die.
He refuses to kill as he was taught by his parents everyone deserves a chance to make the choice to live a good life. Because of his good-natured character and heroic accolades, people do come to eventually see him as a savior-type figure. Some criminals even choose to make actual steps to reform into a better person due to his influence.
Because of his actual age, he is usually shy around women. When he develops a huge fan base, whenever a teenager or woman comes to ask him for a picture or autograph, he becomes flushed and runs away. But when it comes to children, he always takes time to protect them or give them attention. He kind of sees himself through their eyes.
He isn’t scared of most threats that come his way unless it’s catastrophic as he sees himself as unstoppable. His suit has a mix of bright and dark undertones of vivid colors because he wants criminals to know who took them out. To enforce his fearlessness and to gain the trust of the people, he does not wear a mask. Since most of the people he knew still thinks he has the appearance of a kid, he gets away with his identity for the most part. His eye color was originally brown but later changes to hazel. He wears brown contacts and a hat as Aaron to become unnoticeable in public. He also changes his hairstyle when acting as Maximum. His parents also believed since he was still actually 12, it would be best for him not to leave the house until he had the mindset of a mature individual. Due to his quick-learning capabilities, he finished his home-schooling at 14.
The burning light inside of him to do good attracts kind-hearted people towards him. Though he was seen as a public menace at first, his continuous efforts allowed him to be integrated into society as a hero and works with the law to apprehend criminals.
III. Abilities, Powers, Skills…
As he continued to train the capabilities of his body, he thought he reached a plateau. He was able to lift a car, but when he attempted a train, he pulled a muscle. Also, his body became so stiff and hardened by his increase in muscle mass, he wasn’t as flexible in combat as before, which slowed his reflexes and reaction time. Feeling defeated, he told his mother about it and she had an idea of why his body no longer responded to his increase in strength. She instructed him to speak to his grandfather.
His grandfather knew of an extremely rare Native American monastery long ago which helped people see beyond themselves. Luckily, the monastery was still intact. The people there taught him how to treat his mind and body as one; to go beyond his limits through spirit. After this epiphany, he was able to lift more than just a train, cementing the fact that he was his only limit.
His body adapts quickly to physical change.
He does not have the average human limitations, though he still needs the usual to survive such as water, air, and food.
After realizing his potential, he could create shock waves through his fists and kicks. One time he caught a jet from falling during a drill exercise by first jumping as high as he could and then keeping himself elevated with shock waves by continuously kicking his feet in the air. He cushioned the impact the same way. Though effective, this trick exhausts him tremendously.
The shock waves of his punches become so strong, it shakes the Earth around him. When fighting super villains who cause him to go all out, he makes sure to take the fight to an abandoned area to avoid casualties from the calamity. He can cleverly use the force of his blows to attack at a long range or even put out fires. He can also create fire by attacking so fast for it to create friction in the surrounding air, igniting his punches and kicks.
He develops incredible speed and reflexes. After figuring out how to use his full strength without continuously increasing his muscle mass, he focused on becoming faster in battle. The fruits of his training allowed him to break mach barriers. He first gets a running start and then charges full speed. The force of it creates a strong gust of wind which can knock down trees.
Though his healing and regenerating got him out of more situations than he’d care to admit, his father became increasingly worried about his recklessness when fighting criminals. Being the head of an R&D department for a company he worked for, he secretly developed the design for Aaron’s suit. He at first wanted to make it bulletproof but realized the tough material would make him inflexible in a fight, which could potentially do more harm than good. For functionality, durability, and protection, he separated the armored plates for more mobility, which made it bullet-resistant instead. He also wears tear-resistant gloves to protect his hands from punching or lifting objects.
Aaron has an unbelievably high threshold for pain. He can take as much damage as he’s dishing out.
He relied on brute force and brawling starting out, but later studies boxing and a little kickboxing to better defend himself against heavy hitters in a fight. He had to, of course, hold back on his sparring partners as he was learning the discipline.
Though his limitless potential inspires hope to people who look up to him, it can frighten others since not even he knows what else he can do if he puts his mind to it.
IV. Allies/ Enemies
Aaron’s alter-ego “Maximum” acts like a sort of beacon for most do-gooders and criminals. After a certain incident occurred, the amount of allies and enemies he had increased.
The super villain Nervo saw Maximum as an instrument of destruction. He put Maximum under mind control to lay siege to Earth so he could rebuild it for “The Outsiders”. After many heroes tried to take down Maximum and inexplicably failed, including powerful ones such as Mantle and Protector, they turned to a myth which was real. Aziza had a vision, stating the one who could resolve the situation was Quietess. Her tactical prowess, vast years of combat experience, and tenacity were key elements Aziza saw in her visions to stopping this madness. She was a conspiracy legend no one except for the cities she saved from corruption believed to be real. However, with help, Aziza found her. To her surprise, she already had encounters with Maximum before.
When they first encountered each other in the same city they were helping, they had contempt for one another. Maximum couldn’t stand how she at times put herself above what was just, killing criminals she deemed necessary to eliminate. Quietess couldn’t fathom how naive he was and how he knew nothing of the real world nor the pain of loss. Overtime, she learned to truly live up to her deceased youngest son’s example. She couldn’t make exceptions with lives. Killing was no longer an option. She saw a lot of her youngest son’s qualities in Maximum.
Quietessaccepted Aziza’s task to stop Maximum as she saw it as a second chance to save an innocence she couldn’t in the past. Quietess has super-human abilities but nowhere near the level of Maximum. Aziza’s allies started to question why she recruited help from her at all. In terms of mortality and ability, she was helpless as an average person, trying to take him down.
Nevertheless, Quietess’s determination to save Maximum removed all their doubts. Thanks to Aziza’s visions of events, strategy, quick-witted reactions, and help from her husband, Waren Marshal, she was able to stop Maximum and free him from his mind control. The calamity was devastating even as surrounding allies tried to minimize casualties. Quietess nearly lost her life. Without strategy and Aziza’s visions, she would’ve indefinitely died.
However, the aftermath brought an age of heroes together. Maximum learned a great deal that day as one of the casualties was his mother due to falling debris from the destruction.Quietess’s words echoed in his head and he understood the pain of loss. He finally heeded her instruction to not act rash when people’s lives were on the line and to treat some situations more seriously. They became best friends and developed a mother-son type relationship with each other. When she got on his nerves with his nagging, he would sometimes sarcastically say, “whatever mom” while she acted angry for calling her that but secretly adore the term of endearment.
Soon, they established an association called The Guardians dedicated to preserving peace in the world, working with law enforcement. Though, the world acknowledged Maximum as the lead of the group, it was quite the opposite. Everyone in the association taught Maximum how to become the hero he wanted to be while his best friend, Quietess, earned the respect to become the lead tactician of the team.
People forgave Maximum as they agreed it wasn’t his fault after learning the details of the event. It was a miracle their trust in him did not falter, although he bears a heavy guilt towards the incident still. People around the world believed in Maximum so much that The Guardians were regulated as an official law enforcement branch because of him. If anyone tried, it would be considered an act of vigilantism. As if to echo their establishment throughout the world, tabloids, newspapers, and news stations throughout wrote articles about them all. The article that stood out the most was “Guardians: The Pact of a New Age”.
Maximum’s increase in popularity and establishment of The Guardians brings villains of all kinds out from the shadows. Maximum’s main focus becomes Nervo as he is the first person to make him feel powerless, forcing him to do unforgivable things to a world he loves.
V. Creation and Development
Aaron “Maximum” is a guardian from Tatum Games created and developed by Reginald Andah. Inspiration of the character comes from the likes of Superman, One Punch Man, All Might,Shazam, and other powerhouse heroes.
Maximum’s creation poses a scenario to how a child’s innocence could play a big factor in making the world a better place. Through Aaron, readers recognize why righteousness is still achievable and needed in a time of darkness.
VI. Trivia
Aaron got his name from a fictional comic book series called, “Maximus”. Some kids who were his fans knew of this and saw he displayed mannerisms closely resembling the childhood hero. So much so, at times they would call him Maximus instead of Maximum. This irritated Aaron at first, but the name stuck. Both names became interchangeable whenever people called on his alter-ego.
Madam Psyche put a series of mental blocks in Maximum’s mind to prevent any outside influence from tampering with it again. Maximum also developed an iron will to the point where he couldn’t be manipulated so easily anymore.
After seeing his wife nearly destroyed by Maximum due to Nervo’s manipulation, Waren Marshal became weary of how dangerous Maximum could be and secretly made a bio weapon to use on Maximum as a last resort. It attacked abnormal DNA codes and rewrote the flaw to be normal. Quietess later finds out but accepts her judgment is skewed when it comes to him. She agreed with Waren’s decision as she said she would have asked him to make a weapon like that long ago if Maximum didn’t remind her so much of her youngest son.
Since Maximum had high endurance and liked to use his fists, he got the idea to take up boxing and kickboxing later on to better control his skills through technique.
Some people nickname him “Max” for short.
His father integrated the letter “M” into the design of his suit as well as the symbol of the bear to incorporate his mother’s heritage into his symbol. The “Bear” symbol stands for courage, physical strength, and leadership.
When he becomes serious, he has the tendency to say the catch phrase, “Time to take it to the max!” This was obnoxious to people at first, but the more times he saved them, the more it caught on, inspiring hope in times of peril.
