History
In the past when Emeka Idra “The Protector” worked for the Fundamental Research of Biology United (F.R.B.U.) as a leading engineer, he coerced with bio scientist Adomas Ellliott and his wife Eva Elliott on an unsanctioned project funded by a private entity. It veered off from their usual projects on finding ways with technology to improve life. Adomas was a very enthusiastic scientist who dedicated his life to finding ways to know more about his Creator. Emeka at first sympathized with his colleague as he himself was a religious man. However, this project required the team to theoretically find proof if a doorway to another dimension existed, and if it did, to discover the key to open it. Emeka became suspicious of the project since the beginning. He didn’t see a valid reason to open Pandora’s box and let his curious mind venture out so far into the unknown that he’d discover knowledge man wasn’t supposed to.
Adomas became obsessed with the project. He was convinced proof of another dimension could expand their view on so many things in the universe. Emeka’s instincts opted him out of the project and told Adomas there were some things in this world man was better off not knowing. Eva saw Adomas become discouraged after his former colleague’s departure and convinced him to forget about him and continue the pursuit of such an idea. Adomas knew the world was made up of matter, things people can interact with by using their five senses and antimatter which the normal senses could not detect. Matter consists of various types of particles made up of electrons, protons, and neutrons. Combinations of these particles form atoms which all living and nonliving things are made of. He was convinced the answer was in antimatter also known as dark matter since it was an unknown force throughout the universe man could not crack the mystery to. To him, since dark matter was the opposite of matter, its particles must be of an unseen world parallel to ours. Though the collision of matter and dark matter lead to the annihilation of both, he theorized a perfect ratio of both sides could at least lead to a small door to the other.
One day, after countless experimentation through a facilitated particle accelerator (a machine using electromagnetic fields to propel charged particles to high speeds contained in beams) something happened. A flash of light illuminated the accelerator room. After powering down the machine, Adomas quickly rushed inside to see what happened while Eva waited in anticipation. A few minutes passed and Adomas wasn’t answering her calls. She went in and was shocked at the site. A black, formless substance appeared before her floating in air while Adomas stood in front of it. She called out his name, but he didn’t respond. Soon the substance later on believed to be a temporary portal vanished while Adomas split into seven bodies right before her very eyes – like he was going through fission. Each looked similar but had distinct features. Before she had time to process the situation, one of the seven murdered her.
Adomas’s original persona was suppressed, perhaps lost forever by the seven unknown entities that entered his body. Utilizing Adomas’s body as a host, they could split and reform into one again. While seven, each had a terrifying ability. While one, they became a monster known as Abyss. The one thought still fresh in the original Adomas’s mind was Protector’s painful departure from the research as he was both a trusted colleague and friend. Abyss went to encounter Protector for the first time. Protector realized his former associate wasn’t himself. After witnessing Abyss separate his body into seven distinctive beings, he knew he was fighting the manifestation of sins – coining Abyss the nickname, “The Destructive Seven”. Its only goal was the destruction of the human race along with Protector.
Personality
When separated, Abyss displays seven distinct personalities though the seven bodies look similar in appearance with Adomas’s face.
Ash– He is always angry and bent on destruction as he wants to see the world burn. His eyes are bloodshot red with a serious demeanor. Can combust in flames without damage to his skin.
Slack– Slack is easily controlled by the other six. He has no will of his own. If he is not following orders, he is lost in thought not knowing what to do – the perfect slave. He is pale in appearance with grey skin and has the expression of a mentally ill patient. Reddish marks can be seen around his wrists and ankles. When he walks, the sound of chains can be heard dragged across the ground as if he’s always chained to the world.
Binge– He is always starving for negative energy. His eyes appear to be sunken in and is foaming at the mouth. His form starts off as an extremely skinny being to the point you can see his bones. After consumption of energy, his body can expand out and upward like a blob – almost cartoonish in nature. He can reach giant sized proportions.
Spite– A resentful entity who only desires to have the life of living things born in the world of matter instead of the world of dark matter. Since he knows he can’t have this, he is filled with hate towards humanity and desires nothing more than their extinction. He is the most unrecognizable among the seven in appearance as he seems to have lost almost any sense of humanity that was once inside him. He is hunchback and can move on all fours like a primal beast. Built like a tank, veins protrude from his muscles. His pupils are also abnormally dilated. The only thing resembling Adomas’s original features are his eyes and some parts of his face. Glimpses of Adomas’s original persona sometimes slip through, trying to break free since he desires nothing more than to be an ordinary human again. Protector tries to appeal to this entity at times to reach Adomas, but it is incredibly difficult due to the malice and contempt Spite holds towards them. Protector’s words is lost on deaf ears most of the time.
Ardor– Has an innate desire to be free and experience all the pleasures the world has. Perhaps the most rebellious of the seven. Looks the closest to Adomas’s original appearance except for the occasional devious grin.
Covet– Similar to his counterpart Binge, he also yearns for energy but desires matter instead of antimatter. He is invisible until he consumes matter. After consumption, he takes on a physical form. The more matter he takes, the more efficient his ability is. When teamed with Binge, they are a formidable duo on their own without the other five. (teleportation for powers)
Vain– The last but definitely not least of the seven is Vain. Vain is the alpha and omega of the other six. They worship him like a deity and he commands to be worshipped by other people or they will perish by his hand. His eyes glow white and levitates giving the appearance as if he is some sort of god.
When combined into one being, they make up Abyss. Abyss is a powerful being whose eyes glow white with an aura of dark matter surrounding him. He commands death at his fingertips and is the embodiment of destruction.
Abilities, Powers, Skills…
Ash – Ash is able to combust in flames or combust any type of matter and destroy it just by thinking it.
Slack– This entity controls chains that look astral like in appearance. He skillfully wields them as they are attached to his wrists and ankles. He can cause physical damage with it and seemingly attack the very spirit of a being with it. Such an ability poses a question to scientists, after Abyss is defeated and observed, if the soul does exist.
Binge – He can absorb dark matter whole and grow into gigantic proportions who can take down cities if left unchecked. Negative energy displayed through emotions is also a source of power for him to absorb. Also has a special ability where he can create a vacuum with his mouth taking in massive amounts of dark matter. The draft is felt by any in the range of the absorption technique’s vicinity. (When attacking while Covet is around, Binge does damage on a massive scale causing a distraction while Covet uses teleportation to sneak around any potentially harmful threats and take them out.)
Spite– Has hyper reflexes and super strength. He is strong enough to level a building and maybe more. Though formidable, he may be the weakest link amongst the seven due to the lingering presence of Adomas’s original personality. As Adomas tries to fight with what little of himself he has, Spite can stop attacking and hold his head at a moment’s notice.
Ardor– With the power of persuasion, he can influence living things to do his bidding or manipulate inanimate objects. For example, changing the molecular structure of a spoon to that of a blade.
Covet– Though he starts off invisible in the world of matter, when by it, he can absorb it and become a tangible being transitioning from the world of dark matter to matter, almost like a living portal between two worlds. This ability allows him to appear and reappear, spawning across short to long distances depending on how much matter he has consumed. He utilizes this ability like teleportation. (While enemies are distracted by Binge’s colossal damage, Covet takes out the potentially harmful ones through guerilla tactics, making them nearly impenetrable when teamed together.)
Vain– This commanding entity has the ability to fly and peer into people’s weaknesses with his glowing eyes.
Abyss – The domineering figure with the combined might of all seven entities when formed back into one. The dark matter he possesses is off the charts causing him to radiate with a dark aura surrounding him. With just a spec of dark matter around him, he is able to level cities in utter destruction.
Allies/ Enemies
Abyss is a being who cannot be reasoned with unless an ally has the same goal for matter’s extinction as he does, thus the destruction of all things in the world.
Abyss fixates on Protector as he was the last conscious memory Adomas had before being taken over by him. He felt his departure from the project was a betrayal in the scientific mission they were trying to accomplish. Though he tried to deny it, he still felt contempt in his heart for Emeka because of it. Abyss exploited this emotion once possessing Adomas’s body and seeks Protector’s life as a result. Protector becomes one of the very few guardians who can combat this threat as he recalibrates his gold suit to combat dark matter, the source of Abyss’s power. Protector sees Abyss as the ultimate embodiment of evil he pledged to stop ever since he made his suit to become Protector in the name of his faith. However, he knows Adomas still exists in his body that Abyss took over. He vowed to never take the life of another human being, but feels conflicted. He knows he combats pure evil, yet it exists in a person.
Creation and Development
Abyss is a fictional character made from Tatum Games created and developed by Reginald Andah. Abyss is inspired by the biblical seven deadly sins. Conjured up by man’s technology, Abyss’s existence challenges Protector’s faith as science and religion combine into one ultimate test between good and evil.
Trivia
Protector feels partly responsible for Abyss’s creation since he came up for the schematics for the particle accelerator.
Adomas holds on to a cherished memory of his wife, Eva, allowing him to never fully succumb to Abyss’s will. The memory is the one thing reminding him of who he really is as his real self is suppressed in his own mind.
Protector once got Adomas back for a moment with his words. Protector tried to get Aziza’s friend, Madam Psyche to free Adomas from Abyss’s control. However, once Abyss felt his grip loosening on Adomas’s psyche, he possessed Madam Psyche instead. Adomas agreed to be a compliant servant to Abyss once more if he got out of Madam Psyche’s body. This gave Protector and his allies an unnerving realization that Abyss can take possession of anyone he wants if Adomas was ever out of the picture.
Protector discovered it is easier fighting Abyss when he’s separated into seven entities; taking them down one at a time than facing him combined.
