I. History
Sophita Yuriko Marshal is an Asian Mexican who was born in Mexico but raised in America. Her parents faced extreme prejudice from both of their respective families and friends for their relationship. Because of this, they decided to start over in America which caused Sophita to face a harsh upbringing growing up due to being in poverty-stricken areas. Her parents became concerned for her safety due to the various criminal organizations surrounding the neighborhood and introduced her to martial arts as a pre-teen.
As she became older, she joined the military and married a man named Waren Marshal. Waren started out as a weapons manufacturer/ specialist. Eventually he became a weapons analyst for the CIA as well as worked on a theoretical project for a bio-enhanced weapon for them. Sophita’s reputation for her outstanding mission records gained so much prestige it even became noticed by certain people in the CIA through various connections. Waren was approached by some intelligence officials, telling him if he could ask his wife about joining the special forces. They had kids at home and both worked long hours already in their respective professions. After bringing this concern to the CIA, they assured them she would have plenty of time at home after mission directives were completed.
Both Sophita and Waren were hesitant at first but ultimately accepted the offer given to her as they wanted to put their two sons and daughter through college as well as retire peacefully. She quickly gained an outstanding reputation in the special op missions, granting her the codename Quietus by her superiors. Quietus was an archaic word from Medieval Latin meaning death or something that causes it. Her youngest was into superheroes and would sometimes put his own spin on her codename, calling her Quietess whenever she came home. She was a real life heroine in his eyes.
After some time passed, she noticed sharp pains in her back and notified a military doctor. The military doctor said she had multiple contusions within her spinal cord among other issues. He gave her an epidural spinal injection, or so she thought. Waren was there during the procedure and he thought certain aspects of it were strange. The next day she wasn’t only better but able to do things she never could do before such as jump extremely long distances or react faster to hits during combat exercises.
Waren was in shock. These were hypothetical results of the bio-weapon project he worked with the CIA on. Even after years have passed, he was still under the impression they weren’t even close to a prototype. With help from a friend who was a senior analyst, he discovered the project wasn’t only completed some time ago, but the purpose of it was twisted. After more research, he discovered just how deep the corruption in government went from spies being used for political gain to profit being made from crime organizations.
Sophita received a call from Waren one day saying they were planning on erasing her memory, killing her ties, and turning her into the ideal soldier. He even accused her superiors of causing pains in her back in the first place. She thought her husband was going mad until she came home to a horror scene. Her husband was next to two bodies of their kids sprawled on the floor while he cradled the lifeless youngest one in his arms. There were three men in black suits motionless on the floor as well. Thanks to Waren’s hand-to-hand combat techniques he learned growing up and a few tricks he picked up from Sophita, he was able to fend off the attack against his own life but failed in saving their kids.
Sophita blamed herself for not seeing and listening to the signs sooner. Both her and Waren became warped by the experience. With weapon and comm support from Waren, she becameQuietess, dedicating her life to stopping corruption and finding the individuals responsible for her children’s death.

However, non-lethal tactics are her go to unless she is provoked to use excessive force.
IV. Allies/ Enemies
Waren Marshal is of African American descent. He has been her loyal companion since they met in a dojo as teenagers while they were both attending high school. He joined the dojo to fend off muggers coming home from school or from getting off of work late at night. Both had their guards up starting out. Sophita was teased as an adolescent because of her mixed origin, and Waren was an independent person who typically took care of himself due to an absent father and mentally ill mother. They both strived to get out of the poor neighborhoods they grew up in. After putting their guards down, they both had a lot in common, becoming friends and later began to fall for each other. Their bond became so strong that they sustained a long distance relationship for over four years after Waren decided to go to another state for his college degree and Sophita joined the military while taking college courses. They were both loners and confided in each other whenever they needed support.
Corrupt government, gangs, criminal organizations, and people who have their hands dirty in negative influences in society are all of Sophita’s enemies.
V. Creation and Development
Sophita Yuriko Marshal a.k.a. “Quietess” was written and developed by Reginald Andah. Through her character, he explores other aspects of struggle within society including social minority issues, the aftermath of war, corruption within a nation, coping with loss, and family.
Her abilities paint a scenario of a rogue soldier trying to find justice in a world full of hidden wars beneath the surface.
VI. Trivia
Sophita really values family due to the struggle her parents went through. Her mother was a Chinese immigrant from “The Second-Sino Japanese War” where the Japanese invaded China. Her family decided to move to Mexico to escape the strife erupting in their nation. There, her mother met a hispanic man who would later on become Sophita’s father.
Her mother was drawn to her father’s strong desire to protect his family and how he put love above all else. She tried telling her own parents this, but it unfortunately fell on deaf ears as they only saw his ethnicity and not his integrity. After much harsh discrimination and disapproval of their relationship in Mexico, they decided to start over again in the United States.
Life for them became even more challenging as they moved to a foreign land and both had to learn English quickly to adapt. During the time both worked various low-wage jobs, Sophita’s mother became pregnant with her and wedded her father. Sophita’s mother kept her last name Yuriko to honor the remaining semblance of her heritage. Her father agreed only if he could have their daughter’s first name be a variation of his own mother’s name Sophitia (Sophita’s grandmother). To have enough money to properly support their daughter, Sophita’s mother used all of their savings to open up a Chinese store while her father decided to join the military.
Her father never missed an opportunity to call or go see them when he had any time to do so. Because of this, Sophita only had small visits and random phone calls from when she could remember her father as a little girl. One day, he had a break from deployment and Sophita and her mother waited anxiously for their loved one’s return, but he never came. It was later reported he was “M.I.A.” from a mission. However, he was declared legally dead after they could not find him for months.
Years after, idolizing her father, she decided to be a hero like he was and join the military at a later age even though her mother disapproved. Her daughter is the only family she had left and did not want to lose her to the country as she lost her late husband to it.
During reconnaissance missions or stakeouts, she likes listening to K-Pop, R&B, and old school Hip Hop to put her mind at ease.
She always wears a locket necklace tucked away under her attire of her children.
Sophita’s mother suspects she fell in love with Waren so much because he possesses qualities reminding her of her late father. Her mother gladly accepted him as a son-in-law and treats him like her own son because she saw these qualities too. With Waren, it’s as if the spirit of Sophita’s father is still with them.
