This poem was made while I was attending a poetry course at Texas State University. The professor named Kathleen Pierce, a published poet, was teaching the course. Ms. Pierce wanted her students to make poems that expressed more about themselves or certain events that happened in their lives. “25 to Life” was made to express what I felt at the current moment. Before turning it in, she wanted to know what inspired the poem and which author in our textbook inspired the form of our poem. Both of my inspirations and poem received excellent feedback.
